Dell S2417DG Calibration

The Dell S2716DG’s design, quickness, G-SYNC capabilities, and resolution make it a popular gaming monitor. These features have been carried over to a smaller monitor with a cheaper price tag and higher pixel density with the Dell S2417DG. Low input latency, 144Hz refresh rate, and 1440p resolution are all essential features for gamers, and this monitor delivers on all of them.

As a result, the majority of individuals will love using it for gaming. Although the resolution is decent at 1440p and the input latency is modest, the poor contrast ratio makes watching movies in dim surroundings difficult. By changing the brightness of the NVIDIA control panel, you may improve colours and other display settings and specific factors.

What is Calibration?

Calibration is a colour measurement technique that matches a common standard on your computer monitor. It aligns the colours of your screen with the RGB colour model guidelines. The correct calibration of a monitor is an essential component of colour management, and the perfect image is achieved. To make sure your photos are correct in at least colour and standardised, calibrate your screen to provide the most stunning possible colour and brightness on the screen. It operates by aiming to use a common standard to show the picture in a similar manner to any monitor using the standards.

Requirements

  • Dell S2716DG or S2716DGR 27-inch 2k 144Hz G-Sync Monitor
  • Nvidia’s latest GPU
  • Nvidia drivers with pre-installed Nvidia Control in it
  • A Dell Monitor Driver. If you don’t have it, you can download it from Dell Support. When downloading the driver, make sure the correct operating system and Binary Digit are selected.
  • A Display Port because the monitor’s G-Sync and 144Hz refresh rate are only available via DisplayPort and not HDMI

Steps to Calibrate

1. Installing Software:

Nvidia Driver:

  • Firstly, install the Nvidia GeForce Driver if you don’t already have it. According to some users, you don’t need to run the installer as an administrator, mainly while using your personal computer. However, if you face issues while installing it, you may try running it as an administrator.
  • After that, select the “Custom” option instead of “Express”. Choose all the boxes except the “Perform Clean Install” box. Use the clean install option only if you use the driver from GPU OEM or any other issue.
  • Restart the computer after the installation process is done.

Dell S2716DG Driver:

  • Start the.exe file and follow the screen prompts. After the installation, the computer should recognise the monitor as a “Dell S2716DG” rather than a “generic display”.
  • Again restart your computer to check if it’s working fine.

2. On-Screen Display (OSD) Calibration

This is a file responsible for the colour identification of your monitor or display. It essentially makes the correct colours for a given device.

You may set them as follows:

Monitor Settings

  • Brightness: 68%
  • Contrast: 77%

Colour: Custom Color

  • Red (R): 97%
  • Green (G): 99%
  • Blue (B): 96%

3. Nvidia Control Panel Settings:

By right-clicking on the desktop, you can access the Nvidia Control Panel. If you are using windows 10, you may search the Nvidia Control Panel in the search bar of the taskbar.

When the window opens, go to the left side of the screen and select “Adjust desktop colour settings.” On the right, select the “Use Nvidia settings” option.

A “Color Channel” drop-down amongst the various options will display. The “All channels” option would be selected as a default option.

You may set them as follows:

All Channels:

  • Brightness: 40
  • Contrast: 55
  • Gama: 0.96
  • Digital Vibrance: 46
  • Hue: 0

Red Channel:

  • Brightness: 40
  • Contrast: 70
  • Gama: 1.00

Green Channel:

  • Brightness: 40
  • Contrast: 50
  • Gama: 0.89

Blue Channel:

  • Brightness: 40
  • Contrast: 50
  • Gama: 1.00

After changing the colour settings, click on Apply changes. Close the Nvidia Control Panel, and restart your computer to see if the desired changes are applied.

These settings provide a calm, somewhat accentuated picture, a little black squashed, minor banding. It differs considerably from the dim, warm, smooth, banded, white way-off picture and the extreme saturation of the other settings.

You may have to modify the calibration settings somewhat to get the most accurate colours out of your S2417DG. Even if the numbers vary somewhat, you will be given significantly higher colours than when opening the S2417DG for the first time. On Dell S2417DG, the optimised colour and image quality for gaming was demonstrated.
